It ticks and ticks on a cold morning and never lights
A cracked igniter, or a burner cap sitting crooked so the spark cannot reach the gas. Lift the cap off, seat it flat on the head, and try once more before you call.
The flame lifts off the cap and roars instead of simmering
Almost always the wrong orifice for this elevation, often left behind by an earlier install. The low-flame screw can mask it for a while, then it comes back.
The oven half is dead and the cooktop is fine
On a dual-fuel body those are separate circuits. A thermal fuse or the oven relay has usually opened, which is a part change rather than a rebuild.
